Day 2 - Chemo Starts

By Bernadette Terzich

We found out today that the preliminary tests from his bone marrow biopsy showed less than 2% of abnormal cells. That is a GOOD thing!!! We were first told that they found 5% leukemic cells in the bone marrow, however, the doctor (not his actual doctor) came back and said he was mistaken. I'm just thankful he made the mistake from 5% to less than 2% and not the other way around!! Thanks God for giving us yet another thing to praise you for! We will know more about those cells once the lab at UCLA gives us the results.

Chemo also started today - he will receive 3 different types of chemo for a total of 8 hours a day, from 2pm-8pm. His doctor advised that he will most likely lose his hair from it but not sure how else he will react since the LAST time he did this type of treatment he didn't have ANY effects (besides a little hair loss). He will be receiving this chemo for 6 days and after that his immune system will be compromised so if anyone has the sniffles or is sick or has kids that are sick....PLEASE do not go near him!!! He will need to recover at the hospital for 2 weeks and IF he doesn't need a blood transfusion or platelets DAILY, he will get to go HOMEEEEE!!!!!! Now, don't get too excited because recovering at home can also be a little stinky because of all the germs around home and people at home. We need to keep him healthy and strong and away from colds, coughs and fevers! Once he recovers and he is in remission, Lord willing, he will come home for a few weeks and then he'll go to City of Hope for a bone marrow transplant.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see him today and I was hoping to spend my birthday with him at some point. :( However, the best birthday gift was when he called me after the chemo was over to say goodnight and he said that he felt completely fine! Completely Fine? We praised the Lord for a great day of good news and no sickness from the chemo on day 1! And in typical Sasha fashion, he said he wanted to take me and Logan out for breakfast at the Block tomorrow....yeah, the Block. He's serious too. We do plan on seeing him in the morning but I'll suggest that we stay on campus for now!! :)

"Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples." Psalm 77:13-14

Can I add another praise and prayer request? Thanks... :)
PRAISE - that Sasha has a business with a business partner and wonderful employees who are holding down the fort and handling business without him there. Again... PRAY - That the Lord would sustain their business and that no one would grow weary of working, especially his business partner Bobby, whose wife is about to have twins in the next month or so. Shameless plug - if you have any water damage to your home, please call 24 Hour Restoration for your needs. Managers, give them some RFPs. ;)

Well, I guess it's time for me to go to bed since I'm now at the point of advertising for my husband on his blog.

Until tomorrow!

In Christ Alone,
